When to Shop for Game-Worn Minor League Jerseys

For game worn jersey collectors, especially those who are looking to buy minor league jerseys, there is no off-season.

The fall and winter months are great times to shop for game used jerseys from your favorite organization or player.  You'll find many teams across minor league baseball clearing out their clubhouses of last year's game worn jerseys and equipment.  Some simply announce they're for sale via team newsletters or local advertising.

Other minor and major league teams will hold 'garage sales' or off-season fan fests during which team memorabilia sales are held.   It's a great time for new collectors to get started as selection is large and competition isn't as great as it might be during a special in-season promotion like 'shirt off our backs night'.

If there are certain big league prospects you're interested in for investment purposes or just want to have something from that player to say 'I knew him when',  this is the time to strike.  Next year's rookie stars are still this year's minor leaguers--still not on the radar of many fans or even collectors.  Having a player's minor league jersey and seeing that player go on to stardom is a great feeling for collectors and those shirts can often sell for a premium later on.

Minor league teams are clued into the memorabilia market, though, and will likely sell prospects' jerseys at a premium.  Bargains can be had, however, by doing your research on second tier prospects.  You can also shop for jerseys of major league players who went down to the minors for a rehab assignment and wore the A, AA or AAA club's jersey for a few days.  They're out there!

Many minor league and major league game worn jerseys now pop up on eBay as dealers look to move this year's inventory.

The same holds true for game worn hockey sweaters.  You'll find minor league hockey teams selling off their jerseys on eBay and in their own offices during the late spring and summer months.

If you're not really looking at investing in game worn jerseys as much as collecting something unique and different at a bargain price, shopping for minor league jerseys is a buffet of almost unlimited possibilities.  Some low level minor league clubs or independent league teams have great-looking jerseys with unique logos and designs priced at less than what you'd pay for a nice baseball jersey in a store.  Even if you someday choose not to collect, you've still got a jersey to wear that'a a conversation piece and didn't set you back a day's pay.
